So, here I am. I'm jamesster, a LEGO Universe Alpha Tester and Beta Tester, and dedicated LEGO Space nut. I don't own many of the classic sets due to not being alive when they were on store shelves, but my older brothers passed a few Classic Space and Blacktron sets down to me, which got the ball rolling. Back in the Alpha Test, I found some LDD models in the game files for Classic Space and Blacktron 1 sets, which really got me excited (And I'm guessing they are from the Moonbase world?). So, here are some ideas!
Back in the 1980s, there were two LEGO Space comic books published by LEGO, based off of Classic Space (Though very Blacktron-like villains appeared in the first one). I only have #1 (The Unknown Galaxy); I have never read #2 (Kidnappers from the Swamp Planet - yes, that's what it's called). It may be cool if the main characters from the series could appear again (Here is a pic of them). Later on, a robot named Keko also joins them, and becomes a main character as well (He is the grey robot in the third panel here). The main villain of the comic is named Kazak - a bit of backstory on him can be found here. The basic plot is that the Spearhead, a large exploration ship from the planet Zonia, is sucked through a wormhole and ends up in another galaxy entirely, which has been taken over by Kazak. They then assist a group of robots in defeating Kazak on the planet Robus, which is mainly jungle covered. Some pics from the comic can be found here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=351322 If you think you may be able to incorporate this, I can provide more detailed story.
Also, in an interview with Jens Knudsen, a Classic Space designer:
I asked about the colors of the classic spacemen and if they
had any particular significance to the designers. “The original
two colors were explorers, yellow were scientists, blues were
technicians or mechanics and I guess the black were warriors,
but we were not allowed to make a big deal out of this. We were
not allowed to make war.”
Perhaps something along these lines could be incorporated here, but with White for commander?
Also, the first thing I thought when I saw the Piratron scout ship was "That cockpit reminds me of a skeletal ribcage". Seeing as they're basically space pirates (from what I gathered), perhaps this could be elaborated on (But not Space Skulls style, with everything shaped like a skull)?
While never directly stated, it has been implied several times that most astronauts have devices in their suits that generate a sort of personal atmosphere in a sort of force field, and that the visors are to protect them from things like laser blasts and flying debris. Could this become canon somehow?
I may post more later, but I thought I would get a start on this. Can't wait to play the world!
EDIT: Realized one of the links lead to the wrong picture. Fixed!
